The National String Orchestra of the Federated States of Gapla is an initiative by the Gaplan Government to create music for all. Weekly rehearsals will be held either at Venado Middle School or Lakeside Middle School after school hours in the instrumental music room.
If you can come to either Venado or Lakeside, play either the violin, viola, cello, or piano, have at least a year of playing experience, and are ready to have fun and even make money by playing other micronation’s anthems as a service, you’re in the right place!
Seating will be done by a prioritized forfeit-audition system. For violas and cellos, unless the other person forfeits their right to contest the first chair, there will be an audition in which the other members of the orchestra will decide seating.
For violins, seating will be chosen in the same way except that a forfeit system to eliminate members from the audition will only be done if there is more than one person who forfeits their seat. First violin chairs are prioritized in rank compared to second violin chairs.
We use the same audition music as the California Orchestra Directors Association (CODA) and the Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association (SCSBOA). The auditions will be live at the first rehearsal.
You can find the audition music here, although it should be emailed to you prior to the first rehearsal:
This is all tentative, but music is at a middle school symphonic orchestra level (about grade 3). The information will be emailed to you when we have enough members of the orchestra.
We are currently trying to contract with both Venado and Lakeside and seeing which will be more successful. We are currently, however, making more progress with Venado as the Lakeside administration is quite impolite.
Our plan is to record national anthems of other micronations for a small fee, then to distribute that money to the members of our orchestra.
We cannot guarantee the success of this endeavor but we believe that there will be a demand for this kind of service.
As a very small orchestra, it is easy for the section leaders to conduct their sections and not have a centralized leader.
However, if you are a conductor and wish to help us, please email the administration at music@gaplagov.orgĀ and we’d be glad to have a conductor!
Our original plan was to have four violins (two firsts and two seconds), two violas, two cellos, and a piano player for a total of nine members.
However, this may expand to as much as eleven if we have a conductor or a bass player.
